Task 3 - Design

Task 3 Recap

  • Find visual reference that inspired and support my idea.
  • 3 to 5 sketches of my own idea.
  • Final design documented as A4 size and JPEG format.
  • Write a rationale of my design, explain decision made, purpose and design principles in 150 to 200 word.
  • Feedback section from the lecturer.

Visual Reference

Figure 1.1  Victo NgaiHumanitarian Raid, Mother Jones, AD: Carol Perot, 2016, Digital illustration,

The first illustration is the one that inspired me for this module, I tried to use this as the main reference of my design, the hand element, and the color contrast of this illustration, the green tone background and a light focus point.

The second illustration inspired me for the composition of element for my design and the angle that look down from up.

Figure 1.3 Demizu Posuka,???.2016,digital illustration
The third illustration inspired me of creating the background of my design, as my topic for the design is poverty, the background is just like a village that is poverty.

Sketches

I created the sketches by using the element big leg that means for wealthy and upper class world, the little man is the one that tried to get away from poverty, and go into the city. The differences of these sketches is the angle and composition

For the design I used the sketch 1 as the main focus of my illustration.

Submission

Figure 3.4 Poverty to Wealthy

Rationale

The idea behind this design is to examine how difficult it is for someone living in poverty to become wealthy. To do this, they must devote all of their energy to enrolling in school without any resources; their education is funded by the income and resources of a small village, which only gets them halfway to a normal city. He must give up his time and dignity in order to become wealthy in order to serve the wealthy. This illustration topic "Poverty to Wealthy" means a process and sacrifice to be wealthy. In this design, the color of wealthy bright yellow and the color of poverty green tone created a sense of contrast in color, and also the bright color emphasize wealthy from the background. The contrast of size made a sense of scale, and also the color of the main character is without any bright color is to present the unnecessary of him to the wealthy.

Feedback

13.03.2024/Week 6

Absent with permission, but continue with the sketches, a good idea but need to improve on the design.

20.03.2023/Week 7

Need to improve on the background as it seems too empty of the design and need to document in the proper way based on the instruction.

Reflection

For this task, I observe that my skill of illustrating is quite poor as the color cannot be present as a strong contrast, and I am still not too good on compositing and design using the principles of design in an artwork as I would done with my artwork before I use design principles to think, I should use principles to think before designing.
