Lectures

Week 1 01/09/2023

First of all, we started the lectures with briefing about this module, what is video and sound production and what are we going to learn about it.
Our learning objective is about the whole production process.

And Mr. Martin gave us a brief about our assignment for project 1 till final project.
The assignment for the day is done for the simple editing, just arrange the clip according to the timeline.

Week 2 08.09.2023

The second lectures are about principle of shooting, we learn all kind of shoot that mainly use in a production.
  1. Extreme Wide shot
    • to show the environment and location of the production
  2. Wide shot
    • Entire Surrounding of the character or object
  3. Medium Wide shot
    • About knee to head and a little bit of space from head, this is taken for the show movement of the character or object, and it can also show expression of the character.
  4. Medium shot
    • Half of the character body and a little bit of space from head, this is to show expression and gesture of the character or object.
  5. Medium Close up shot (MCU)
    • Upper chest to forehead, this is to show the expression and emotion of the character more clearly.
  6. Close up shot
    • This is to isolate the important subject, is to show detail or facial expression, about a size of a face.
  7. Extreme Close up shot.
    • Magnifies detail (eyes) 
  8. Over shoulder shot (OS)
    • to show P.O.V (Point of View)
And we learn about some of the composition for shooting. (rule of third, eye level, high/low level shot, 45-degree etc.)

 FOR the practical part, we tried to take the shot for our partner using the knowledge that we learn today.

Week 3 15/09/2023

This week is about storytelling techniques in production. This class is on learning the basic structure of story which separated into three part. First of all is the Setup which is an basic intro for the world view and character of that production. Secondly the confrontation which is the middle in the three act structure also known as rising action it's to create obstacle of the story as most of the story are not just a straight line, it's also lead to the climax of the story, And finally the end, as the ending of climax, and an answer for the viewer as all the problem in the story.

Week 4 22/09/2023

Mise En Scene which is a French term means setting on stage, which is an important step for every production. Mise En scene can be separated to different work, which is setting composition in the frame, set design which mean to build out the world of story to the viewer, lighting which can affect the viewer emotion, some light can lead to horror, scary, sorrow, happy or more emotion. Besides that, costumes and prop that create the character, a great costume can let the viewer to know more of the story, and finally depth on space, which is much more complicated, depth of space can let the production from flat page to a real world.

Week 6 06/09/2023

Color correction in video, it's a important editing skill in production, it can affect the viewer's perception, as if all the clip are not in the same color temperature, the perception will become weird, so it's to adjust all of the clip color to the same page. Color grading as known as filter that made the film be difference.

Week 7 13/09/2023

Audio Editing, Sound shaping as one of the skill that I think the hardest one. Learn about how to set up the sound in audition and edit it into different kind of sound like a filter to the sound. Example like sound in bathroom which have echo.

Week 9 06/10/2023

Briefing on last project of this module, which is stop motion. It's mean filming one frame at one time

Week 10 13/10/2023

VFX basic tutorial that can be used in our final project.

low-angle wide shot, frontal MCU (soft background), frontal MS (soft background), extreme close-up shot, side angle MS (soft background), 3/4 angling MCU shot (with blurry/soft background), CU shot and Eye-level medium wide shot.

Reflection

This class is the class I like a lot because there is lot of practical scenes that I can do it myself not like other class, I learn a lot from this class like basic editing skill and also it can be help in my future, it helps me to edit in other module too as social invasion project editing.
